Llantwit made one change from last week's home-win against Carnetown, Jonny Miller replacing Greg Jerrett in attack. It was 50/50 whether the match would go ahead, but the pitch was deemed playable by the referee shortly before kick-off even though the pitch was bog-like to say the least!
Llantwit started slowly and it was clear that it was going to be impossible to play any kind of decent football and were therefore relunctantly forced into a long ball game. By the time they had reacted to the conditions they found themselves a goal down. A long kick up field by the Caerau keeper was worked forward and finished well by the Caerau striker to make it 1-0 to the home side. Llantwit reacted well and hit back with their two real chances of the first half, the first a 25-yard thunderbolt from Lewis Whetter and the second a neat finish from Jonny Miller after a Whetter through ball. Shortly after, the big Caerau centre midfielder was shown the red card for reacting to an Ethan Jones tackle. HT 1-2.
The second half was not as straight forward as it should have been, with Llantwit struggling to use their one-man advantage effectively. Caerau pinned Llantwit back for long periods of the half and they looked to have made their pressure count when they were awarded a penalty after a miss timed Dylan Evans tackle. Fortunately it was a tame effort and was easily stopped by Philip Medd in the Llantwit goal. Llantwit once again showed their new found resilience this season as they managed to hold on to a well earned 2-1 victory and take all 3 points to keep in touch with the top 3.
Next Saturday, Llantwit have another difficult away game at Cardiff-based STM Sports. STM beat Llantwit comfortably 2-0 at Tonteg Park earlier this season.
